AFGRI, one of South Africa’s largest agricultural services companies, is recruiting graduates for its Grain Management Graduate Programme 2027. The 18-month programme starts on 1 February 2027 at AFGRI’s Centurion head office and is open to graduates with an NQF Level 7 degree in agricultural economics, agribusiness, agriculture, economics, finance or risk management. Applications close on 30 September 2026.
About the AFGRI Graduate Programme
AFGRI has been part of South African farming for over a century. It operates one of the country’s largest grain storage networks, supplies farm equipment through its John Deere dealerships, and provides financing, insurance and market access to thousands of commercial and emerging farmers. Its Grain Management division buys, stores, hedges and sells grain, and its decisions move prices for maize, wheat, sunflower and soya across the SADC region.
The Grain Management Graduate Programme is AFGRI’s route for bringing commercially minded graduates into that trading and risk environment. Over 18 months, graduates rotate through grain management, agricultural markets, commercial analysis, risk management and grain logistics. The goal is to produce analysts and traders who understand the full grain value chain, from the silo floor to JSE agricultural derivatives. It is one of the few graduate programmes in South Africa that sits at the intersection of agriculture and finance, and it is aimed at graduates who are comfortable with numbers, markets and commodity data rather than field work.

The closing date for the AFGRI Grain Management Graduate Programme 2027 is 30 September 2026. No late applications will be accepted.
Why It Matters
Agricultural economics and finance graduates face a narrow job market. Banks want CAs, and most agri employers want extension officers or agronomists. Grain trading is the exception: it pays like finance, hires from agricultural faculties, and is short of young analysts who understand both the farm and the futures market. AFGRI, Senwes, VKB and the big commodity traders compete for the same small pool of people.
Eighteen months inside AFGRI’s grain division builds exactly that profile. Graduates leave able to read a basis, hedge a position and analyse a silo’s commercial performance, skills that transfer directly to trading houses, agri banks, the JSE and food processors. With graduate unemployment still rising, a structured programme at a century-old company with a defined start date is worth the effort of a careful application. The stipend or salary was not published and will be confirmed during the application process.
