The GTA is an agency of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development responsible for developing, promoting, coordinating and facilitating responsible and sustainable tourism across the Gauteng city region.
The organisation is looking for an experienced leader to fill the position of Executive Manager: Office of the CEO, a strategic role that will support the CEO in driving organisational alignment, governance, stakeholder integration, revenue sustainability and performance across the Authority.

About the position
The Executive Manager: Office of the CEO will provide executive leadership and strategic coordination within the Office of the CEO.
The successful candidate will act as a strategic integrator for the organisation, helping ensure that GTA’s different business functions work together effectively and remain aligned with its overall mandate and strategic objectives.
The role includes oversight of areas such as corporate services, stakeholder relations, communications, revenue sustainability, governance and organisational performance.
This is a senior leadership position suited to an individual with substantial experience working at executive and senior management level, particularly within a public-sector governance and PFMA environment.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of strategic and executive functions, including:
1. Executive coordination and strategic integration
The Executive Manager will:
- Coordinate strategic alignment across GTA’s business units.
- Oversee the integration of HR, communications and revenue functions.
- Provide strategic advisory support to the CEO.
- Ensure operational plans are aligned with organisational strategy.
- Drive the implementation of Board and EXCO resolutions.
- Monitor strategic risks and mitigation actions.
- Ensure effective information flow between governance structures and management.
2. Governance, compliance and risk oversight
Responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and applicable corporate governance frameworks.
- Overseeing organisational reporting to the Board and relevant oversight authorities.
- Monitoring implementation of organisational policies.
- Ensuring compliance with King IV governance principles.
- Overseeing legal and regulatory compliance.
- Supporting audit processes and the implementation of audit findings.
- Strengthening internal controls and the organisation’s compliance culture.
3. Corporate services and organisational performance
The successful candidate will also oversee important organisational functions, including:
- HR strategy and workforce planning.
- Organisational performance management systems.
- Employee engagement and organisational culture.
- Shared services efficiency.
- Transformation and employment equity targets.
- Labour relations management.
- Promoting a high-performance culture.
4. Corporate communications and stakeholder leadership
The role will involve high-level stakeholder and communications responsibilities, including:
- Overseeing the corporate communications strategy.
- Strengthening stakeholder and intergovernmental relations.
- Ensuring consistent corporate messaging.
- Managing high-level stakeholder engagements.
- Supporting industry partnership development.
- Overseeing crisis communication preparedness.
- Promoting a positive GTA brand and reputation.
5. Revenue, sustainability and commercial oversight
The Executive Manager will contribute to GTA’s financial sustainability by:
- Overseeing revenue generation and diversification strategies.
- Monitoring sustainability initiatives and funding partnerships.
- Ensuring the financial viability of commercial initiatives.
- Driving partnerships aligned with economic growth objectives.
- Monitoring the performance of revenue streams.
- Evaluating new commercial opportunities.
- Reporting revenue performance to the CEO and Board.
6. Leadership, people and executive management
As a senior executive, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Provide executive leadership to direct reports.
- Set strategic objectives for the unit.
- Conduct performance reviews for managers.
- Mentor and develop leadership capacity.
- Promote ethical leadership and accountability.
- Support succession planning.
- Build collaborative relationships across GTA’s business units.
Minimum requirements
This position is aimed at an experienced senior management professional with a strong background in leadership, governance and organisational strategy.
Applicants should have:
- A relevant Postgraduate Degree/Diploma at NQF Level 8 in one of the following or a related field:
- Public Administration
- Business Management
- Business Administration
- Governance
- Economics
- Tourism
- Law
- A minimum of 5–8 years’ senior management experience.
- At least 3 years’ experience at executive level.
- Experience in public-sector governance and a PFMA environment.
- Proven experience leading multi-functional teams.
- Experience in strategic planning.
- Experience in stakeholder management.
- Experience in organisational performance oversight.
Advantageous qualifications and experience
The following will be advantageous:
- A Master’s Degree at NQF Level 9.
- An Executive Leadership Development Certification.
- Knowledge of stakeholder management.
- Experience coordinating and managing executive offices.
