Cenfri Bursary Programme

The Cenfri Bursary Programme 2026 is now open for applications, offering an opportunity for South African postgraduate students who are passionate about research and real-world development. Based in Cape Town (hybrid model), this initiative is designed to support and grow the next generation of economists committed to driving inclusive development across Africa.

What the Cenfri Bursary Offers

Successful applicants to the programme will benefit from:

  • Work experience through at least six weeks of paid internship time at Cenfri’s Durbanville office and through remote participation.

Who Should Apply?

Cenfri is seeking intellectually curious and motivated postgraduate students who are ready to take on this challenge. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be on track to enter a one-year or final year of a Master’s-level qualification in Economics or related fields.
  • Hold a GPA of 65% or higher in the most recent academic year.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in research and a passion for development.
  • Possess excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work independently and within a team.
  • Have advanced English proficiency (verbal and written).
  • Be proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Have solid quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Stata and household survey data analysis will be an advantage.
