About the Department of Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture is the national department responsible for supporting South Africa’s farming sector, food security, agricultural trade and rural development. It oversees everything from cooperative development to plant and animal inspection and quarantine services that protect the country’s exports and food supply.

Entry-level clerk posts like these are among the most sought-after jobs in the public service because they require only a Matric certificate, come with a stable government salary and benefits, and open a career path within the public service. Government departments advertise these posts through the weekly DPSA vacancy circular, and competition is intense, so a complete, correct application matters more than anything else.

Why These Posts Matter

Millions of young South Africans hold a Matric certificate but cannot find a first job because most vacancies demand experience or further study. Genuine Grade 12 entry-level government posts with no experience requirement are rare, and they pay well above what most entry-level private sector jobs offer.

A permanent Level 05 clerk post is a foothold in the public service: from here, officials routinely study further, apply for internal promotions and build long careers. If you have Matric and live in or can relocate to Pretoria or Bloemfontein, this is exactly the kind of opportunity worth taking seriously.
