Senior State Accountant Position Overview

As part of its ongoing efforts to increase efficiency and meet service delivery objectives, CoGTA is looking for a Senior State Accountant to join their Pretoria-based team. The appointed candidate will be expected to manage a range of financial tasks, including overseeing payments, journals, revenue administration, and reconciling accounts within a public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Final Authorizations: Oversee and finalize payments and journals on the BAS (Basic Accounting System) and LOGIS (Logistical Information System).
  • Reconciliation: Manage the clearing and reporting on suspense accounts.
  • Revenue Administration: Administer the department’s receipts and ensure that revenue is properly accounted for.
  • Creditors and Grants: Handle creditors and grants transfers reconciliation effectively.

Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • Educational Requirements: A National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6/7, as recognized by SAQA.
  • Work Experience: At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in the finance sector.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, LOGIS, BAS, and Safety-web.
  • Competencies: Strong communication, teamwork, planning, and execution skills. Knowledge of public sector financial budgeting arrangements and processes, including fiscal policy and cost accounting.

Added Advantage: Management functions and supervisory experience will be highly beneficial.

It is essential to submit a new application for employment (Z83) form, which can be downloaded from the DPSA website at DPSA Vacancies.   • At least two contactable references.
  • Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA before submission.

  • The candidate will also be appointed on probation for 12 months and will be required to sign a performance agreement.
