This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a critical service while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and Capturing Incoming Calls: You will handle emergency calls via the GEMS data system, recording vital information and prioritising cases based on urgency.
  • Managing Stress and Anxiety: You must demonstrate excellent communication skills, providing reassurance to distressed callers.
  • Dispatching Emergency Resources: After assessing the situation, you will dispatch the relevant emergency services via radio and monitor the progress of each incident.
  • Control Room Management: The agent will maintain order and hygiene in the control room to ensure optimal working conditions.

Key Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the position:

  • Education: A Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in an emergency or medical call-centre is essential.
  • Computer Literacy: A good working knowledge of MS Office is necessary. Familiarity with the GEMC/CAD system (Computer Aided Dispatching) is highly advantageous.
  • Shift Work: The ability to work shifts according to a roster is a requirement, with a willingness to work overtime when needed.
  • Other Skills: Strong communication skills, the ability to manage stressful situations, and a calm, focused approach during emergencies are essential.

Additional Information:

  • Salary Range: R 228 321 – R 268 950 per annum, plus service benefits such as a 13th cheque, pension fund contribution, housing allowance, and medical aid.
  • Closing Date: 8th August 2025.
  • Practical Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo a practical assessment to evaluate their ability to perform in a real-life emergency call centre scenario.
