Examination Assistant Vacancies

Applications are now open for Temporary Examination Assistant positions in the Northern Cape for the examination session running from September 2025 to August 2026. These opportunities are aimed at students and unemployed matriculants who wish to gain valuable experience while contributing to the smooth running of examinations in the province.

Examination Assistant Overview:

The Department of Education is seeking dedicated individuals to assist with examination processes across several district offices, including:

  • Frances Baard Examinations and Assessment District Office
  • Pixley Ka-Seme Examinations and Assessment District Office
  • John Taolo Gaetsewe Examinations and Assessment District Office
  • Namaqua Examinations and Assessment District Office
  • Z.F. Mgcawu Examinations and Assessment District Office

This role offers hands-on administrative experience in a structured environment where accuracy and integrity are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will support examination administration through tasks such as:

  • Checking and handling answer scripts and portfolios
  • Totalling and verifying marks
  • Capturing data accurately
  • Sorting and packing scripts and portfolios
  • Removing scripts from marking or moderation centres
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Administrative Manager

Who Can Apply?

To be considered for these posts, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a second-, third- or fourth-year student at a tertiary institution (university, university of technology, or college).
  • Unemployed matriculants may also apply, although they will be considered only if required.
  • Preference will be given to students studying towards a teaching qualification at third-year level.
  • Applicants must be residents of the Northern Cape, with proof of residence required.
  • Northern Cape students studying outside the province may also apply.
  • Applicants with relatives writing examinations must disclose this in their application.
  • Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under close surveillance and supervision.

Required Documents

Applicants must complete the official application form NCED – EAT/2025/26, available at the Head Office or District Offices. The application should include certified copies of the following:

  • South African ID
  • National Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • Proof of student registration or qualifications
  • Proof of residential address (e.g., municipal account)

  • Examination Period: September 2025 – August 2026
  • Late applications will not be considered
