About the Internship

The Gauteng Tourism Authority is an agency of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development responsible for developing, promoting, coordinating and facilitating responsible and sustainable tourism in the Gauteng city region.

As a Multimedia Visual Content Creator Intern, you will contribute to the creation of visual content used to promote Gauteng’s tourism attractions, destinations, events, people, experiences, lifestyle and business opportunities.

The role provides practical exposure to photography, videography, editing, social media content creation, digital storytelling, event coverage and multimedia content management.

This could be particularly valuable for candidates looking to build a portfolio and gain professional experience in the creative, tourism, media, communications or digital marketing sectors.

What Will You Do?

The successful intern will assist with a wide range of multimedia and content production activities.

Photography and Videography

You will help plan, capture, edit and produce professional visual content highlighting Gauteng’s tourism offerings.

This may include:

  • Taking photographs of tourism attractions, destinations, events and experiences.
  • Shooting video content for digital platforms and marketing campaigns.
  • Editing photographs and videos for publication.
  • Producing short-form and long-form video content.
  • Supporting the creation of visual assets for campaigns.
  • Capturing content that strengthens the Visit Gauteng brand.

Multimedia Storytelling

The role goes beyond simply taking photographs and videos. You will also help turn visual material into compelling stories that promote Gauteng.

You may assist with creating content highlighting:

  • Gauteng’s tourism experiences.
  • Cultural heritage.
  • Lifestyle and entertainment.
  • Innovation.
  • Investment opportunities.
  • Events and attractions.
  • Different destinations and regions across the province.

The content will need to be adapted for different audiences and digital platforms.

Digital Content Library

The intern will also assist with managing the GTA and Visit Gauteng’s digital content bank.

This includes helping to:

  • Organise photographs and videos.
  • Catalogue and tag visual assets.
  • Manage metadata.
  • Maintain a searchable multimedia library.
  • Archive content for future campaigns.
  • Ensure visual assets can easily be accessed when needed.

This provides useful exposure to digital asset management, an important skill for modern content and marketing teams.

Social Media Content

Social media is a major part of the role.

You will assist with creating, curating, scheduling and optimising content for platforms including:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • X
  • LinkedIn
  • YouTube
  • Emerging digital platforms

You will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas aimed at improving engagement, reach and audience growth.

Events and Campaigns

The intern will provide multimedia support for GTA and Visit Gauteng activities, including events, campaigns, exhibitions, activations and stakeholder programmes.

Depending on the assignment, this could involve:

  • Photography.
  • Videography.
  • Livestreaming support.
  • Real-time event content.
  • Post-event content packages.
  • Social media assets.
  • Visual material for marketing campaigns.

This means the position could provide valuable experience working in real-world, often fast-paced content production environments.

Destination Branding

You will help maintain a consistent visual identity for Gauteng as a tourism destination.

Your work will need to align with Visit Gauteng’s brand guidelines, marketing objectives and destination positioning.

You may also contribute creative ideas that help communicate Gauteng as a world-class tourism, business, lifestyle and events destination.

Who Can Apply?

The internship is aimed at candidates with a relevant qualification and an interest in multimedia, visual communication and digital content.

Applicants should have a:

  • Diploma or National Diploma, Degree or relevant qualification in Multimedia Production, Digital Media, Visual Communication or a related field.
  • Basic experience in photography, videography, video editing, multimedia content creation or digital storytelling.

  • Ability to take and edit photographs for websites and social media.
  • Strong interest in graphic design, social media and digital marketing.
  • Knowledge of digital design and digital copywriting.
  • Strong computer skills, including Mac applications and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of social media content planning and platform-specific content requirements.

Flexibility Is Important

Applicants should be prepared to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and public holidays, when required.

This is particularly relevant because tourism events, activations and destination activities may take place outside traditional office hours.
