In Zambia, Unifi is not just a service provider; it’s a community partner, working to uplift local economies by supporting clients through responsible lending.

Unifi’s approach combines data-driven decisions, a customer-first mindset, and a people-centered work environment. To support its growing operations and ensure consistency in delivering a positive employee experience, the company is now looking for a talented HR Manager to join the team in Lusaka.

The Role: Leading HR and Learning & Development

As the HR Manager, you will be the key driver of Human Resources and Learning & Development (L&D) functions within the Zambian business. Your role will involve aligning local HR practices with broader group objectives while being responsive to Zambia-specific operational needs.

This isn’t just a back-office role. You’ll be working closely with country leaders and the central HR team to shape strategy, manage people processes, and build a workplace where employees can thrive and grow. From policy development and compliance to team mentorship and wellness initiatives, the HR Manager is expected to be hands-on, proactive, and results-oriented.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the main duties of the HR Manager include:

  • Designing and executing a country-specific HR and L&D plan aligned with group-wide goals.
  • Leading all HR operations such as recruitment, training, payroll submissions, employee relations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Implementing group HR initiatives while adapting them to local context.
  • Building a culture of performance, engagement, and growth by mentoring HR generalists and learning facilitators.
  • Ensuring that all employee records are accurate and all compliance requirements are met.
  • Representing Unifi Zambia in all HR-related forums, both internally and externally.
  • Supporting management with HR-related guidance, conflict resolution, and strategic planning.
  • Driving employee wellness and engagement programmes to foster a positive working environment.
  • Monitoring HR metrics and reporting insights that support decision-making and organisational improvement.
  • Enhancing the company’s employer brand through job fairs, networking events, and career outreach.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Unifi is looking for an HR professional who is not just qualified but driven and personable. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic thinking and practical know-how to the table. Key qualifications and traits include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in a managerial HR role, preferably in fast-paced sectors like retail or call centres.
  • Strong knowledge of Zambian employment legislation and experience handling labour matters.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • A collaborative attitude with the ability to mentor and build relationships across different departments.
  • Business acumen and an understanding of how HR impacts company growth and operations.
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset, ready to lead by example.

Why This Role Matters

This role is central to Unifi’s mission of delivering a people-first business culture. The HR Manager will directly influence how employees experience the organisation—from their first interaction during recruitment to their growth within the company. A well-run HR function not only supports compliance and operations but also fuels innovation, morale, and retention.
