The Role: Junior Chemical Plant Operator (Jnr CPO)
As a Junior Chemical Plant Operator (Jnr CPO) at Sasol, your role will be integral to the maintenance and repair of the plant’s production line. You’ll be working with control panel management and troubleshooting complex issues to ensure the smooth operation of plant equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Work Coordination: You will manage the day-to-day operations of specific processes within the plant, ensuring that maintenance and repairs are carried out efficiently. Providing timely feedback to supervisors on progress is a crucial part of this role.
- Safety and Risk Management: You will participate in risk assessments, adhering to both company requirements and legislation to improve safety standards across the facility. The role will involve maintaining a safe working environment and actively contributing to safety talks and toolbox discussions.
- Independence and Team Collaboration: While you will work independently on certain tasks, teamwork is essential. You will also take part in shift handover meetings, ensuring smooth transitions between teams.
- Training and Development: As part of your professional development, you will identify your training needs and incorporate them into your Personal Development Plan (PDP), with approval from your group leader. The role also involves coaching and mentoring learners in the specific equipment and systems at the plant.
- Emergency Response: In times of plant emergencies, you will play a key role in getting the plant back on line and ensuring the safety of all personnel involved.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Matric/N3 with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science.
- CHIETA NQF Level 2 or a CPO Competency Certificate.
- A minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- A valid driver’s license is essential.

- Production Resource Management: Strong understanding of managing resources and processes to meet production goals.
