Role Overview

The ALS Practitioner/Paramedic will be expected to enhance the operational efficiency and ensure the seamless delivery of services, client liaison, and patient management at Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital.

The practitioner will also be responsible for liaising with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of superior care.

Key Responsibilities

The ALS Practitioner will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Operational Efficiency: Ensuring that emergency services operate smoothly and effectively, improving patient management, and contributing to a positive hospital experience for patients and staff.
  • Quality Care Delivery: Providing high-quality emergency care and assistance to patients in various scenarios, including those requiring advanced life support procedures and interventions.
  • Client Liaison and Retention: Communicating effectively with patients and their families, addressing concerns, providing updates, and ensuring a positive interaction that promotes patient retention.
  • Service Delivery: Maintaining the standards of service expected from Netcare 911 by following protocols, attending to emergencies swiftly, and coordinating with hospital staff when necessary.

Inherent Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following inherent requirements:

  • Registration with HPCSA: Candidates must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Professional Board of Emergency Care Personnel with a qualification in Paramedics (N. Dip EMC / Dip EMC).
  • HPCSA CPG Updates: Current knowledge and adherence to the latest HPCSA Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are essential.
  • Advanced Life Support Qualifications: Candidates should possess current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), all of which would be beneficial.
  • Code 10 Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license (Code 10) is a mandatory requirement, along with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Post-graduate Experience: Applicants should have over one year of post-graduate paramedic experience in an operational environment. This includes handling emergency situations and providing quality care in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Computer Proficiency: While not mandatory, proficiency in computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, is a plus.
  • General Knowledge of Legislation: A good understanding of the relevant legislation affecting the emergency services and healthcare sector, as it relates to Netcare 911’s business operations, is also an advantage.
