This role is offered as a fixed-term appointment for eight months, running from 01 April 2026 until 31 December 2026.

The position focuses on circulation and information services within the campus library environment. The successful candidate will assist with the loan and return of information resources, respond to basic library queries, and support general administrative operations in the circulation section.

This is an after-hours administrative support role that requires working rotating shifts. The working schedule may include Monday to Thursday between 08:00 and 22:00 as well as Saturdays between 09:00 and 17:00. The role requires flexibility and the ability to assist library users during extended operating hours.

Scope of Duties

The Part-Time Library Assistant will support circulation and loan services within the library. This includes checking out information resources to users, processing returns, and managing loan renewals according to library procedures.

The role also involves assisting with the payment of fines related to overdue materials and handling the hold checkout process for reserved information resources. The successful candidate will ensure that circulation services are handled accurately and efficiently during operational hours.

Another key responsibility is responding to basic information queries from library users. The assistant will provide guidance to clients where possible and refer more advanced information requests to the appropriate library staff members.

Additional responsibilities include routing damaged information resources for repair or replacement and ensuring that library materials are properly shelved. Shelf reading activities will be required to maintain the correct organisation of resources within the library system.

The assistant will also be required to report activities to the supervisor and support the overall functioning of circulation and administrative operations within the library environment.
