Job Role and Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse role at the Intercare Tygervalley Medical & Dental Centre involves performing a variety of nursing duties in line with the scope of practice prescribed by the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The nurse will work closely with medical practitioners and other healthcare professionals, ensuring that patients receive the best care possible.

Critical Outputs of the Position

  • Assisting in Patient Care: The nurse will assist the medical practitioner with pre-screening, treatment, and ongoing care of patients, ensuring that all protocols and practices meet the required standards of care.
  • Handling Medical Emergencies: A key responsibility includes helping the medical reception team prioritise and manage medical emergencies effectively, ensuring that critical cases are handled with urgency.
  • Stock Management: The nurse will actively engage in maintaining stock management processes, ensuring that all necessary medical supplies are available and properly stored.
  • Maintaining Emergency Trolley: The emergency trolley must be properly maintained and stocked, following the company’s strict procedures to ensure quick response in emergencies.
  • Drug Register Management: The nurse will be responsible for managing the Schedule 5 and higher drug register in compliance with the Department of Health (DoH) regulations.
  • Medical Waste Disposal: Proper disposal of medical waste and human tissue must be conducted according to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, ensuring safety and compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Branch Operations: The nurse will also assume responsibility for the opening and locking up of the medical centre, ensuring smooth and secure operations.
  • Customer Care: Effective handling of patient complaints is an important part of this role. Where necessary, complaints should be escalated to the Practice Manager to ensure that patient concerns are resolved promptly and satisfactorily.

Requirements for the Position

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Minimum Qualifications: A Diploma or Degree in Nursing, leading to registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a nursing role is required. Experience in a supervisory capacity is advantageous but not essential.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office is essential, as the nurse will be required to manage various administrative and clinical tasks using the software.
  • SANC Registration: Applicants must be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse.
  • No Night Shifts: This role operates during standard daytime hours, including weekends and public holidays, making it an excellent opportunity for those seeking work-life balance without the requirement for night shifts.
