This Rustenburg Municipality Bursaries initiative is aimed at empowering previously disadvantaged youth within the Rustenburg Local Municipal area (North West), providing them with the opportunity to pursue higher education in any field of study at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
About the Rustenburg Municipality Bursaries 2026
The Bursaries are designed to support the education and development of students from the 45 wards of the Rustenburg Local Municipality. The bursaries are aimed at fostering educational advancement and bridging the gap for disadvantaged youth, enabling them to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in various fields.
Who Can Apply?
This bursary programme is open to South African citizens who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Residency: Applicants must reside in the Rustenburg Local Municipal area, located in the North West province (across the 45 wards).
- Academic Status: Applicants must either be in Matric (Grade 12) or have already completed their Matric.
- Tertiary Enrollment: Applicants must either be studying or intend to study full-time in 2026. Additionally, applicants must be accepted or provisionally accepted at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
- Academic Excellence: While all students are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those who have demonstrated excellent academic results.
- Disadvantaged Background: Applicants must be previously disadvantaged or living with a disability.

Required Documentation
To ensure your application is complete, make sure to submit the following documents along with your application form:
- Certified Copy of Your ID Document
- Certified Copy of Your Matric Certificate or Latest Matric Results
- Proof of Admission or Provisionally Accepted Letter from a recognized tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Proforma Invoice from the tertiary institution, indicating the cost of tuition, prescribed books, and accommodation. This should include the institution’s Tax Clearance Certificate
- Certified Copies of Your Parents’ or Guardians’ ID Documents
- Proof of Income from your parents/guardians (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, or pension slip if indigent applicant)
- Proof of Residence (document showing where you reside)

How to Apply
Applications for the Rustenburg Municipality Bursaries 2026 can be submitted in two ways:
- Download the Bursary Application Form 2026 in PDF format from the Rustenburg Municipality’s official website.
- Alternatively, collect the application form in person from the Missionary Mpheni House Building (Room 8, Ground Floor, Special Projects) or from any of the Ward Councillors in the Rustenburg Local Municipality.
