About the Role

Procurement at SAB is the backbone of operations, ensuring that the brewery has the right materials and services to continue brewing some of South Africa’s most loved beers. As a Procurement Trainee, you will join a dynamic team that delivers value, innovation, and efficiency across all sourcing activities.

This full-time role offers a fast-paced learning environment where you will gain hands-on experience in category management, cost optimisation, and strategic sourcing.

Programme Structure

The Procurement Trainee Programme consists of two phases designed to accelerate your professional growth:

- Advertisement -
  • Phase 1 (Band VIII): A 9-month development period focused on building core procurement knowledge and practical skills.
  • Phase 2 (Band VII): A 12- to 18-month phase where you’ll apply your learning through real business projects and leadership exposure.

Progression between phases is based on robust evaluations and performance. The programme follows the 70-20-10 learning model — 70% learning from on-the-job experiences, 20% from mentorship, and 10% from structured coursework.

Key Responsibilities

As a Procurement Trainee, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting category managers and directors in top strategic procurement projects.
  • Leading and contributing to cost-saving initiatives that enhance business value.
  • Analysing procurement data and identifying opportunities for process optimisation.
  • Providing market trend analyses and sourcing strategy recommendations.
  • Managing product and service sourcing using SAB’s 8-step sourcing methodology.
  • Evaluating supplier performance, product specifications, and contract compliance.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for the South African Breweries Procurement Trainee position, applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects independently.
