Position Overview

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for rendering basic functional primary healthcare services within the statutory scope of practice parameters. This is a 12-month contract position, and the successful candidate will be expected to provide efficient and compassionate care to patients within various settings, particularly primary healthcare facilities across the City of Tshwane.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Providing Basic Nursing Care:
    • Render basic nursing care and treatment to patients with stable and uncomplicated health conditions in different healthcare settings.
    • Provide healthcare to patients with complicated health problems or unstable conditions under the supervision of a professional nurse.
    • Offer basic emergency care and aid in life-threatening conditions.
    • Assess and screen the health status of patients through observation, interaction, and basic measurements.
  2. Nursing Care Plans:
    • Develop nursing care plans to meet the basic health and nursing needs of the patients under your care.
  3. Managing Nursing Care:
    • Responsible for managing and conducting various clinical tasks, including:
      • Weighing babies, children, and adults
      • Measuring vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels
      • Conducting tests such as urine tests, haemoglobin tests, pregnancy tests, and others
      • Collecting and processing specimens, including blood, sputum, and urine samples
      • Administering immunisations and other injections
      • Providing wound care and taking pap smears
      • Nebulising patients and conducting eye tests
      • Offering counselling on health topics such as HIV/AIDS
  4. Health Promotion and Education:
    • Promote health by providing relevant health information to patients.
    • Conduct group and individual health education sessions for clients, ensuring the best possible healthcare outcomes.
  5. Clinical Data Management:
    • Responsible for accurate record-keeping, including maintaining patient records and medical results in pathology files.
    • Perform daily data capturing on the minimum data set required for reporting purposes.
  6. Client and Caregiver Communication:
    • Maintain continuity of care through effective reporting and communication with caregivers and healthcare team members.
    • Provide relevant information services to clients and help them with any clinic-related queries.
  7. Reception and Administrative Duties:
    • Perform reception tasks when required, including drawing and filing client records.
    • Provide support in managing clinic enquiries and patient complaints according to the policy.
