Position Overview: Statutory Social Worker

Key Responsibilities of the Statutory Social Worker

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of duties that include:

  • Statutory Work: Implementing statutory services as per the shelter’s mandate and legal obligations.
  • Facilitating Group and Developmental Programs: Designing and running programs that support both community development and individual empowerment.
  • Volunteer Recruitment and Training: Managing the recruitment, training, and ongoing support of volunteers.
  • Business Objective Implementation: Contributing to the shelter’s overall strategic goals, helping to ensure that business objectives are met through effective programming.
  • Networking and Fundraising: Engaging with key stakeholders, establishing partnerships, and leading fundraising efforts to support the shelter’s projects.

Qualifications and Experience Required

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate: A foundational qualification that demonstrates your ability to engage in further education.
  • Degree in Social Work: A formal qualification in Social Work is essential for this position.
  • SACSSP Registration: You must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Clearances: Successful candidates will need to provide SAPS (South African Police Service) clearance and clearance from the Child Protection Register.
  • Code 08 Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required to assist in travel and mobility across project sites.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong written and spoken English is essential, as you will be engaging with diverse groups of people, including stakeholders, volunteers, and community members.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build relationships with clients, staff, and community members is a must.
  • Good Health: The role demands physical and mental fitness to ensure the ability to perform duties effectively.
  • Independent and Team Working Ability: The candidate should be capable of working independently while also thriving in a collaborative environment.
