Minimum Requirements to Apply

- A Grade 12 (Standard 10) certificate or equivalent.
- An N3 qualification in relevant trade subjects.
- Trade Certification:
- A completed Fitter/Turner Trade Certificate through MQA or QCTO.
- Experience:
- 2 to 3 years of technical, mechanical, and electrical maintenance experience within a heavy industry or mining environment.
- Other Requirements:
- A Certificate of Fitness and successful completion of a Psychometric Assessment, both conducted by Exxaro.
- Proven CNC programming and operating skills, especially in lathe and milling machines.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail.
- Competence in Core MQA Modules and On-the-Job MQA Modules.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operating CNC Machines with Precision
The main task of the Turner X2 role involves setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines. Candidates will handle both lathe and milling machines, producing parts that meet high accuracy and safety standards.
Regular checks, precision tuning, and continuous adjustments will be necessary to ensure efficient machine operation. This also includes verifying that components meet technical design specifications.
2. Conducting Maintenance and Inspections
Turners will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance and regular mechanical inspections. This ensures that equipment is performing at its best and prevents costly breakdowns and production delays.
The job involves identifying defects, troubleshooting issues, and carrying out necessary repairs. A well-documented maintenance record must be kept up to date at all times.
3. Mentoring and Skill Sharing
An important aspect of this role is the mentorship of Artisan Aides and trainees. Successful candidates will help build future talent by sharing skills, guiding hands-on learning, and fostering a positive learning culture in the workplace.
4. Upholding Safety and Quality Standards
Safety is a non-negotiable priority at Exxaro. Turners must comply with Safety, Health, Environment, and Community (SHEC) policies. Daily operations include participation in hazard identification, risk assessments, and reporting unsafe conditions.
Additionally, quality control inspections are performed on mechanical components to ensure they meet the company’s high standards.

Turners are expected to take initiative in planning and ordering materials, managing available resources, and minimizing any production delays. Proper coordination with team members and management is essential to keep production flowing smoothly.
