Salary and Benefits

The salary for these positions is R1,001,349 per annum, subject to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) determination. Additionally, registrars may be eligible for commuted overtime depending on the needs of their respective disciplines.

Requirements

For applicants to be considered, they must meet the following general requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification (MBCHB) or equivalent (Medical) for medical disciplines or a Postgraduate qualification in Dentistry for dental disciplines.
  • Current registration certificate with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner or Dentist.
  • Twelve (12) months of post-community service experience as a Medical Officer as of the closing date.
  • Valid code B/EB driver’s license.
  • Discipline-specific minimum requirements, such as experience and additional qualifications (e.g., FCEM Part I for Emergency Medicine, or FC Ophthalmology Part I for Ophthalmology).

Key Notes

  • The training for Medical Registrars will take place at various sites, with training institutions assigned by the Academic Head of Discipline. Some registrars may be required to work across different sites during their training period.
  • Dental Registrars will be trained in Gauteng at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and will need to secure their own accommodation.
  • Service Obligation: All registrars will be required to sign a service contract with the Department of Health, including a service pay-back period.
