Northlink College Opens Applications for ECD Programmes – Funded by WCED

Northlink College, one of South Africa’s leading public TVET institutions, has officially opened applications for its Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes. With ECD being a cornerstone of the country’s education system, these programmes are designed to meet the growing need for qualified educators working with children aged 0–9 years. Applications close on 30 August 2025, but placements are on a “first come, first served” basis, so early submission is highly encouraged. Funded by the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), this is a cost-effective study option for aspiring ECD professionals.

Programme Overview

Northlink College is offering two funded ECD programmes at its Goodwood Campus:

  • Higher Certificate: Early Childhood Development (HC – ECD Level 5)
  • National Diploma: Early Childhood Development (N-Diploma – ECD Level 5)

Both programmes run over 18 months and are fully funded by the WCED, giving students an excellent opportunity to pursue their passion for education without the financial burden of tuition fees.

Why Choose ECD as a Career?

The demand for qualified ECD practitioners in South Africa continues to rise, as government and private institutions invest in quality early learning. ECD educators play a crucial role in laying the foundation for children’s growth, learning, and social development.

With these qualifications, graduates can pursue diverse opportunities, including:

  • Teaching in public and private schools.
  • Working in registered ECD centres and NGOs.
  • Starting and managing their own ECD centres.
  • Contributing to community-based child development programmes.

Admission Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

For the Higher Certificate (ECD Level 5):

  • Competent NQF Level 4 (58761 FETC: ECD Certificate).

For the National Diploma (ECD Level 5):

  • Competent NQF Level 5 (SAQA 64649 Higher Certificate: ECD).

Documents Required

Applicants will need to submit:

  • Certified copy of ID.
  • Certified proof of address.
  • Certified results: ETDP SETA Statement of Results & Certificate.
  • Employment letter from a registered ECD centre or primary school.
  • Proof of ECD centre or school registration (note: NPO certificates will not be accepted).

Application Process

Applications must be submitted directly at the Goodwood Campus. Follow these steps:

  1. Gather all certified documents.
  2. Complete the official application form.
  3. Submit your application at the campus.

Because applications are considered on a “first come, first served” basis, applicants are advised to apply as soon as possible to secure their spot.
