Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the 2027 intake, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Reside in Gauteng Province
- Meet the academic admission requirements
- Apply online before the closing date
- Be willing to participate in both classroom learning and practical clinical training
Applicants may apply if they have:
- A Senior Certificate
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- A National Vocational Certificate (Primary Health)
- Are currently in Grade 12 (using Grade 11 final results)
Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements.
Senior Certificate
You must have:
- English HG: D or SG: C
- Biology HG: D or SG: C
- Mathematics HG: D or SG: C
- M Score of 17
National Senior Certificate (NSC)
You must have:
- English Level 4
- Life Sciences Level 4
- Mathematics Level 4 or
- Mathematical Literacy Level 5
- APS Score of 27 or higher
Note: Life Orientation counts only half towards the APS calculation.
National Certificate (Vocational)
Applicants must obtain:
50% in Fundamental Subjects
Including:
- English First Additional Language
- Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
- Life Orientation
60% in Vocational Subjects
Including:
- South African Health Care System
- Public Health
- The Human Body and Mind

Important Conditions of the Programme
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Sign an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health
- Attend lectures throughout the programme
- Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
- Complete practical clinical training in Gauteng public hospitals and clinics
- Work shifts, weekends, public holidays and night duty as part of the training programme
