People are being told AI will take their job and also that AI will get them a job. Neither is quite true. Understanding what these tools actually do makes you far better at using them, and far harder to fool.
An AI assistant is a program that has read an enormous amount of text and learned the patterns in it. When you ask a question, it produces the words that most plausibly follow. That is genuinely useful, and it is also the source of every problem in this course.
It is not looking anything up. It does not know what is true. It is very good at sounding right, which is not the same thing as being right, and it will be just as confident when it is wrong.
What is AI good for?
What happens: This is where people get burned. It will answer confidently and may be wrong, and if you cannot check it you will not know.
What happens: This is where it is genuinely strong. You already know the content, so you can tell when the output is good.
Will AI take my job?
It changes jobs more often than it removes them, and the change is uneven. What is clearly true right now is that people who can use these tools have an advantage over people who cannot, which is the reason this course exists. Learning it is one of the cheapest advantages available to you.
Which tools are free?
Several assistants have free versions that are enough for everything in this course, and Nasi Ispani has AI tools built in. Be careful with anything that asks for card details for a free trial, and never pay for an AI tool that promises to guarantee you a job. Nothing can guarantee that.
Before you move on
- Remember: it predicts words, it does not look things up
- Use it where you can check the answer
