Learnerships
South Africa’s learnerships combine accredited NQF training with real workplace experience — and a monthly stipend. In 2026, thousands of positions are open across SETA-funded programmes, government departments, state-owned enterprises, and private sector employers in engineering, finance, healthcare, IT, and more.
What Is a Learnership?
A learnership is a structured 12–24 month programme registered under the Skills Development Act. Unlike an internship, it comes with a monthly stipend (typically R2 000–R6 000), a registered learnership agreement, and a nationally recognised qualification upon completion. Because programmes are funded through SETA levies, they cost you nothing to join.
Who Can Apply?
- South African citizens aged 18–35
- Grade 12 certificate or higher (some programmes accept N3)
- Currently unemployed and not in full-time study
- People with disabilities are often given priority
