If you are interested in learning data analytics skills that employers are increasingly looking for, this programme could be a great opportunity to get started.

A new Free Data Analysis Skills Training Programme is now open for young people in Gauteng who want to build practical digital skills.

The programme is offered by the Gauteng Department of e-Government in partnership with Netcampus Group and aims to equip youth with the knowledge needed to work with data, create dashboards, and turn information into useful insights.

Why Data Analysis Skills Are in High Demand

Across the world, businesses and governments collect large amounts of information every day. This information is called data.

However, raw data alone is not useful until someone can understand it and turn it into insights.

This is where data analysts play an important role.

A data analyst helps organisations by:

  • Collecting information from different sources
  • Cleaning and organising data
  • Creating charts, graphs, and dashboards
  • Interpreting results to support decision-making

Because organisations rely heavily on data today, data analytics has become one of the fastest-growing career fields globally.

As South Africa continues to develop its digital economy, people with data and technology skills will be in even greater demand.

This Free Data Analysis Skills Training programme aims to help young people prepare for those opportunities.

What You Will Learn in the Programme

Participants will gain practical skills used by companies worldwide. The training focuses on three key areas of data analytics.

1. Data Collection and Data Cleaning

Before analysing data, it must first be gathered and prepared correctly.

During this part of the training, participants will learn:

  • How to collect data from different sources
  • How to identify errors or missing information
  • How to clean and organise datasets
  • How to prepare data for analysis

Accurate and organised data is the foundation of good decision-making.

2. Data Visualisation Using Power BI

Large tables of numbers can be difficult to understand.

Data analysts use tools like Microsoft Power BI to convert raw data into visual dashboards and reports.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Turn data into clear charts and graphs
  • Create dashboards for reporting
  • Present insights visually
  • Tell a story using data

These skills are highly valued across many industries.

3. Interpreting Data for Decision Making

The final step in data analytics is understanding what the data actually means.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify trends and patterns
  • Detect problems and opportunities
  • Draw conclusions from data
  • Provide recommendations based on insights

Being able to translate data into meaningful insights is what makes data analysts so valuable.
