Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Grade 1 Professional Nurse Vacancy at the North West Department of Education, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A basic qualification in nursing (Diploma or Degree) accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in terms of Government Notice R425.
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- Experience or qualifications in psychiatry is an added advantage.
- A valid driver’s license is required. Those currently studying toward obtaining one may also be considered.
- Dispensing license or studying towards obtaining one will be advantageous.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Provide functional and generic nursing services.
- Actively participate in the School-Based Support Team (SBST).
- Early identification of health barriers to learning.
- Deliver professional, holistic mental health care services in a school environment.
- Deliver complex, comprehensive care to learners in special schools in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Understand and follow relevant legislation such as the Nursing Act and Mental Health Care Act.
- Act as a shift leader when required.
- Be available for night duty, weekend work, and public holidays as needed.
- Display strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Contribute to the implementation of National Regulated Norms and Standards, Batho Pele Principles, and other departmental goals.
- Serve in relevant school or district committees when appointed.
- Promote ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
