Magalies Water has opened applications for 14 bursaries for the 2027 academic year, two in each of seven fields including civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, ICT and water care. South African citizens aged 18 to 35 with a Matric average of 65% or more can apply. Applications are emailed to the company and close on 23 October 2026.
About the Magalies Water Bursary
Magalies Water is a South African water board that supplies bulk water to municipalities and other customers. Running treatment plants and pipelines takes engineers, chemists, technicians and ICT specialists, and the sector has long struggled to find enough of them.
The bursary is part of the company’s youth development initiative. It supports students who want to build careers in water and sanitation, one of the most important infrastructure sectors in the country. Two bursaries are available in each qualifying field.
Preference is given to female candidates, previously disadvantaged candidates and people with disabilities. For young South Africans who want a technical qualification but cannot afford one, it is a direct route into a skills-shortage field.

Closing Date
The closing date for the Magalies Water Bursary 2027 is 23 October 2026. No late applications will be accepted.
Why It Matters
Water infrastructure is one of the sectors where South Africa has real, unfilled technical vacancies. A civil, electrical or mechanical engineering qualification, or a water care diploma, leads to work that municipalities and water boards need every day.
With only 14 bursaries on offer, competition is tight, which makes a complete and correctly certified application important. If you are in Matric or about to start study in 2027 and have the marks, apply before the deadline. Shortlisted candidates are contacted within 60 days of the closing date.

No. You can apply if you intend to study full time in 2027, but you need proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance.

Shortlisted candidates are contacted within 60 days of the closing date. If you hear nothing by then, treat the application as unsuccessful.
