About the MISA Graduate Internship Programme 2026-2028

MISA is a government agency that sits within the Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. Its job is to help municipalities plan, deliver, operate and maintain the infrastructure that communities depend on, such as water, sanitation, roads and electricity. Many municipalities struggle with technical and administrative capacity, and MISA places expertise where it is most needed.

The graduate internship programme exists to give young graduates the practical experience that employers ask for and most graduates lack. The 2026 to 2028 intake is spread across six streams: Human Resource Management and Development, Intergovernmental Relations and ESSS, Capacity Building, Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis, Internal Audit, and Risk Management.

The exact start and end dates are communicated to successful candidates. The posts were advertised in DPSA Public Service Vacancy Circular 37 of 2026.

Closing Date

The closing date for MISA Graduate Internship Programme 2026-2028 is 2 November 2026. No late applications will be accepted.

Why It Matters

South Africa has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world, and graduates are among those hit hard because most entry-level jobs ask for experience. A government internship breaks that loop. You leave with a reference, a work record and an understanding of how public institutions run.

MISA is also a strong place to build a career in local government support. Infrastructure, audit and risk skills are in demand across municipalities and provincial departments. Take care to verify application emails against the official DPSA circular before sending personal documents.
