The Gauteng Provincial Government will officially relaunch its flagship Nasi iSpani programme on Thursday, 11 September 2025, at Change Bible Church in Katlehong.
The relaunch signals a renewed push to provide youth jobs and skills development opportunities across the province.
2 500 Jobs and Training Opportunities
The latest intake will see 2 500 young participants begin a 24-month training and work programme. The first session will focus on skills development, with more than 2 800 youth set to benefit from training in:
- Construction and building maintenance
- Automotive repair and servicing
- Electrical work
- Plumbing and water systems
In addition, participants will receive specialised training in hospital services, boiler room operations, and pharmacy administration, preparing them for essential roles in the public sector.
Empowering Youth Through Work Experience
The Nasi iSpani programme, open to youth aged 18 to 33 years, combines accredited training with practical work experience. This dual approach aims to empower young people with marketable skills while also boosting the province’s capacity to maintain and improve public services.
A government spokesperson explained:
“The Nasi iSpani initiative is one of the provincial government’s key efforts to enhance our state’s capacity to carry out essential maintenance work in public facilities.”

Strengthening Service Delivery in Gauteng
By equipping youth with technical expertise, the programme is expected to improve efficiency in healthcare, education, infrastructure management, and municipal services. This not only benefits participants but also supports better service delivery for communities across Gauteng.
Why Katlehong?
Launching the programme in Katlehong highlights the province’s commitment to investing in areas where youth unemployment remains high. The relaunch marks the start of a series of Nasi iSpani rollouts across Gauteng, designed to create a skilled, sustainable workforce.
