Key Requirements

  • Education: General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)/Grade 9 (Std 7).
  • Professional Registration: Security Board of South Africa, PSIRA Grade ‘C’ (Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001).
  • Experience: Proven work as a Security Officer, preferably within a hospital environment.
  • Languages: Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Skills:
    • Conflict management and group handling.
    • Good listening and report writing skills.
    • Knowledge of managing aggression and violence.
    • Strong sense of responsibility, independence, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Personal Attributes: Self-discipline, motivation, and willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and rotate between units.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed Security Officer will:

  • Manage access and egress control, preventing unlawful entry, removal of persons, vehicles, dangerous objects, and illegal substances.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and fire alarm systems to detect and prevent security risks.
  • Protect buildings, patients, staff, and visitors while patrolling restricted areas.
  • Assist healthcare personnel in handling aggressive or uncontrolled patients.
  • Deliver a supportive security service to prevent injuries, abscondment, litigation, and adverse incidents.
  • Ensure incident reporting and documentation of patient movements and related activities.
  • Provide effective support to supervisors and perform delegated duties across units.

Salary and Benefits

  • Annual Salary: R163,680 per annum.
  • Additional Benefits: 13th cheque, pension fund contribution, housing allowance, and medical aid allowance.
