Minimum Requirements

Required Duties

The Administration Officer will support disaster management activities across all phases of the disaster management cycle.

Pre-disaster responsibilities include developing seasonal winter and summer contingency plans for the Provincial Disaster Management Centre. The role also involves administering disaster preparedness workshops and coordinating the collection of disaster response plans from municipalities, sector departments, and other public entities within the province.

Disaster risk reduction duties include participating in the development and review of disaster management plans and frameworks for municipalities and sector departments. The successful candidate will assist with reviewing the provincial disaster management framework and administering disaster risk reduction workshops at the provincial level.

During incidents and disasters, the Administration Officer will provide operational support to municipalities and sector departments. This includes activating stakeholders, executing disaster response activities, and facilitating coordinated interventions. The role requires participation in Provincial and Municipal Joint Operation Centres, including PROVJOCOM and VOC when required. Standby duties after hours, weekends, and public holidays form part of this function. Participation in SASREA events, including night events, is also required.

Post-disaster responsibilities include conducting disaster impact assessments, performing physical verification of damaged infrastructure, administering disaster declaration and classification processes, and coordinating onsite humanitarian activities during disaster response operations.

The role further includes disaster funding support through administering post-disaster funding processes, monitoring rehabilitation and reconstruction projects, and tracking disaster grant funding and expenditure reports. Additional responsibilities include supporting intergovernmental committees, facilitating disaster relief distribution, and administering the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for disaster response within the Provincial Disaster Management Centre.
