Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • MBChB qualification as a Medical Practitioner
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Sound clinical knowledge and skills in General Medicine
  • Experience or knowledge of Primary Health Care
  • Antenatal and postnatal care
  • Child Health and Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI)
  • HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis management
  • Management of communicable and non-communicable diseases
  • Emergency care
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of National Health Insurance (NHI), Batho Pele Principles and Medical Ethics
  • Fluency in local languages is an advantage
  • A passion for teaching, mentoring and coaching in Primary Health Care
  • A Diploma in HIV/AIDS Care or Family Medicine will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

Medical Officers will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive promotive, preventive and curative Primary Health Care services.
  • Diagnosing and managing acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Managing HIV, TB and non-communicable diseases according to national clinical guidelines.
  • Providing maternal, child and reproductive healthcare services.
  • Responding to medical emergencies and medico-legal cases.
  • Supervising and supporting nursing staff through in-service training.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring compliance with clinical governance standards.
  • Participating in quality improvement programmes and infection prevention initiatives.
  • Supporting the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the National Health Insurance (NHI) programme.
  • Managing health information and contributing to departmental performance targets.
  • Participating in community outreach and health promotion programmes when required.
