Transnet has opened applications for its Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme, offering valuable workplace experience opportunities to students and recent graduates who need practical training to complete their qualifications.
These opportunities are available through the Transnet Corporate Centre and are aimed at helping young South Africans gain industry exposure, develop workplace skills, and improve their employability through structured training and mentorship programmes.

About the Transnet Work Integrated Learning Programme
The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic studies and the workplace. Participants will receive practical training, mentorship, and exposure to real business operations while working alongside experienced professionals.
The programme gives students an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained through their studies in a real-world working environment.
Depending on the category, successful candidates will participate in either a:
- 12-month Work Integrated Learning Programme; or
- 18-month Work Integrated Learning Programme.
Available Transnet WIL Opportunities
1. Work Integrated Non-Technical Learner (University of Technology)

Duration: 12 Months
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have a Matric certificate
- Have completed all theoretical subjects in Information Technology at a University of Technology
- Require workplace training to complete their qualification
- Submit an in-service training letter from their institution
- Have no bursary obligations with another company
- Provide certified copies of their ID, Matric certificate, and full academic record
Preference will be given to persons living with disabilities.
2. Work Integrated Non-Technical Learner (TVET)

Location: Johannesburg and Durban
Duration: 18 Months
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have a Matric certificate
- Have completed N4 to N6 theoretical studies in one of the following fields:
- Human Resource Management
- Marketing Management
- Financial Management
- Office Management
- Require workplace training to complete their qualification
- Submit an in-service training letter from their TVET College
- Have no bursary obligations with another company
- Provide certified copies of their ID, Matric certificate, and academic record
Preference will be given to persons living with disabilities.
3. Work Integrated Learner Technical (University of Technology)

Duration: 12 Months
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have a Matric certificate
- Have completed S4 or S5 theoretical studies in:
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Require workplace training to complete their qualification
- Submit an in-service training letter from their institution
- Have no bursary obligations with another company
- Provide certified copies of their ID, Matric certificate, and academic record
Preference will be given to persons living with disabilities.
