This fixed two-month contractProfessional Nurse role is part of the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination campaign, aiming to protect young girls in local schools across KwaZulu-Natal.

The position is for a Professional Nurse (General Stream), and it is based at the Vryheid District Hospital under the Primary Health Care – School Health Services component. With only one position available and a closing date of 11 July 2025, interested candidates must act quickly.

An Important Role in Community Health

The successful candidate will serve on the frontlines of the HPV campaign, leading vaccination efforts in schools, working closely with learners, educators, and community members. This campaign is especially crucial in the fight against cervical cancer, a preventable disease linked to the human papillomavirus. As a vaccinator and team leader, the nurse will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth delivery and management of the vaccine process.

Key duties include distributing consent forms, preparing vaccination resources, ensuring cold chain management, collecting and reporting data, and upholding strict infection prevention measures. The nurse will also manage a small team of support staff and volunteers involved in learner registration and documentation at the schools.

Who Should Apply?

Qualified nurses who are registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and hold a Diploma or Degree in Nursing with Midwifery are invited to apply. Current SANC registration is mandatory.

The position offers three grade levels based on experience:

  • Grade 1 – No experience needed.
  • Grade 2 – At least 10 years of relevant experience post-registration.
  • Grade 3 – At least 20 years of relevant experience post-registration.

Applicants should possess a strong work ethic, problem-solving abilities, public speaking and interpersonal skills, and experience in health promotion and report writing.

Professional Nurse Salary and Benefits

The salary depends on the applicant’s experience level:

  • Grade 1: R324,384 – R376,458 per annum
  • Grade 2: R396,132 – R459,726 per annum
  • Grade 3: R476,367 – R601,638 per annum

Additional benefits include:

  • 37% in lieu of benefits
  • 12% rural allowance
