Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Roadmaker include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising Paving and Milling Operations: Overseeing the complete road-making tasks including construction, rehabilitation, and repairs of roads, as well as trench reinstatements and access hardening.
  • Planning and Organising: Organising the necessary activities within the branch, ensuring efficient utilisation of plant and materials for the timely completion of tasks.
  • Traffic Deviation Management: Setting up traffic deviations at work sites and ensuring full compliance with the Department of Transport Road Traffic Act.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring all work is carried out in strict accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Quality Assurance: Working from detailed plans, ensuring all tasks are completed in line with specifications and industry quality standards.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Trade Tested Artisan (Bricklayer): A qualified artisan is required for this position.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence (Code EC1): Essential for mobility across worksites.
  • Professional Driving Permit (PrDP): A valid permit is required.
  • 2 Years Relevant Experience: A minimum of two years in a similar role, handling road making tasks.

Preferred Requirements

Although not mandatory, candidates with the following experience will have an advantage:

  • 3 Years Relevant Experience: Experience in large-scale road construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance will be beneficial.

Remuneration
