The Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD) has opened several job opportunities for 2025 across engineering, planning, nursing, and administrative fields. These positions form part of the department’s commitment to equity and service delivery within the province. Applications close on 12 September 2025.

1. Chief Engineer: Civil/Structural (Ref No: REFS/023292)

  • Salary: R1 266 450 – R2 388 657 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Head Office (Johannesburg)
  • Requirements: Degree in Engineering, 6 years’ post-qualification experience, registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), valid driver’s licence, and computer literacy.
  • Duties: Develop technical norms and standards, manage condition assessments, ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements, conduct feasibility studies, and oversee asset management planning.

2. Deputy Director: Infrastructure NPO Monitoring (Ref No: REFS/023286)

  • Salary: R896 436 per annum (all-inclusive package)
  • Centre: Head Office (Johannesburg)
  • Requirements: 3-year tertiary qualification in Built Environment, 5 years’ middle management experience, valid driver’s licence, and strong knowledge of PFMA, DoRA, Treasury regulations, and OHS legislation.
  • Duties: Manage infrastructure policies, monitor compliance, oversee NPO maintenance projects, control procurement costs, and ensure contract management in line with regulatory standards.

3. Deputy Director: Administrative Support and Coordination (Ref No: REFS/023288)

  • Salary: R896 436 per annum (all-inclusive package)
  • Centre: Office of the MEC, Head Office (Johannesburg)
  • Requirements: 3-year tertiary qualification in Office Administration, 3–5 years’ administrative experience, valid driver’s licence.
  • Duties: Provide executive administrative support, manage registry and receptionist services, coordinate workflows, and support meetings and logistics.

4. Town and Regional Planner: Production Grade A (Ref No: REFS/023287)

  • Salary: R761 157 – R1 144 008 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Head Office (Johannesburg)
  • Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning, 3 years’ post-qualification professional experience, registration with SACPLAN, valid driver’s licence.
  • Duties: Provide technical input in infrastructure planning, conduct spatial analysis and modelling, identify sites for social development projects, and represent the department at planning forums.

5. Operational Manager (Nursing) (Ref No: REFS/023285)

  • Salary: R549 192 – R723 954 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa Child and Youth Care Centre
  • Requirements: Diploma/Degree in Nursing, 7 years’ experience as a Professional Nurse, registration with SANC, valid driver’s licence.
  • Duties: Develop and manage nursing plans, monitor health indicators, ensure quality nursing practices, manage staff, and maintain stakeholder relationships.

6. Operational Manager (Nursing) (Ref No: REFS/023293)

  • Salary: R549 192 – R723 954 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Mabutho Hlatshwayo Child and Youth Care Centre
  • Requirements: Same as above (Nursing qualification, 7 years’ experience, SANC registration, valid driver’s licence).
  • Duties: Oversee nursing care plans, promote ethical practice, supervise nursing staff, and engage in multidisciplinary health teams.

7. Operational Manager (Nursing) (Ref No: REFS/023284)

  • Salary: R549 192 – R723 954 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Zanele Mbeki Frail Care Centre
  • Requirements: Same as above.
  • Duties: Manage comprehensive nursing care, develop professional practices, monitor staff performance, and maintain high standards of healthcare delivery.

8. Professional Nurse Specialty (Primary Health Care) (Ref No: REFS/023289) (X2 Posts)

  • Salary: R476 367 – R723 954 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Dr Fabian & Florence Rebeiro Treatment Centre
  • Requirements: Diploma/Degree in Nursing plus a qualification in Psychiatric Nursing, 7 years’ experience, valid SANC registration.
  • Duties: Develop nursing plans, audit quality of healthcare services, uphold ethical practices, and manage staff performance and development.

9. Clinical Nurse Practitioner (Ref No: REFS/023283) (X2 Posts)

  • Salary: R476 367 – R559 548 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Dr Fabian Florence Rebeiro Treatment Centre
  • Requirements: Basic R425 Nursing qualification, Post-basic qualification in Primary Health Care, SANC registration, 4 years’ experience as a Professional Nurse.
  • Duties: Perform clinical nursing practices, ensure quality primary healthcare, and comply with professional nursing standards.

10. GIS Technologist (Ref No: REFS/023282)

  • Salary: R397 569 – R690 237 per annum (OSD framework)
  • Centre: Head Office (Johannesburg)
  • Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Geography/Geomatics/Environmental Sciences, 3 years’ experience as a GISc Technologist, registration with PLATO, valid driver’s licence.
  • Duties: Capture and manage GIS data, maintain spatial information systems, conduct audits, research new technologies, and provide technical advice on GIS implementation.
