About the Programme

The North West Provincial Treasury is the provincial government department responsible for managing public finances across the North West province. It oversees budgeting, financial reporting, risk management and supply chain compliance for provincial departments and supports municipalities in improving their financial management.

This internship is run together with PSETA, the SETA responsible for skills development in the public service sector. The 2026/28 intake gives unemployed graduates two full years of hands-on experience in government finance, accounting, auditing, risk management and human resources. Posts are split between the Provincial Treasury itself in Mahikeng and the Ramotshere Local Municipality, giving interns exposure to both provincial and local government financial operations. Graduates with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Closing Date

The closing date for the North West Provincial Treasury Graduate Internship Programme 2026/28 is 24 July 2026 at 15:00. No late applications will be accepted.

Why It Matters

Finance and accounting graduates in smaller provinces like North West often struggle to find their first professional role, because most entry-level finance jobs are concentrated in Gauteng and the Western Cape. This programme brings 20 paid opportunities directly to the province, with 11 of them in Provincial Accounting alone.

Two years inside a Provincial Treasury is serious professional experience: interns work with public finance systems, government reporting standards and audit processes that are in demand across the public sector. The R7,675.75 monthly stipend is among the more competitive internship rates in government, and former Treasury interns are well placed for permanent finance posts in departments and municipalities across the country.
