Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 10
  • Grade 12 (Matric) will be an added advantage
  • Previous experience in a hospital food service environment will be advantageous
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual duties
  • Honest, reliable and trustworthy
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Understanding of the Batho Pele Principles as they relate to Food Services

Food Service Aid Duties

Successful candidates will be responsible for supporting the Food Services Unit by performing a variety of essential tasks, including:

  • Performing routine duties within the Food Service Unit
  • Operating large-scale food service equipment
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness
  • Cleaning food preparation areas, storerooms, cold rooms and freezers
  • Unpacking and storing food supplies
  • Packing and organizing provisions in storage areas
  • Preparing and portioning meals
  • Distributing normal and therapeutic diets to patients
  • Following departmental food service policies and procedures
  • Assisting in different sections of the unit when required
  • Supporting the team to ensure efficient daily food service operations
