Duties and Responsibilities

As a Pipe Man, your primary responsibility will be to manage and oversee the side-trail dredging process, which is a key component of dredging operations. These operations are essential for maintaining optimal port functionality, ensuring that ships can navigate safely and efficiently. This role is based in the DRG, Isandlw. Shift B, Deck Ops department and reports directly to the Chief Mate.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the side-trail pipe process to ensure optimal production, and reducing cycle times for maximum operational efficiency.
  • Maintaining critical equipment, including monitoring and repairing the depth indicator, managing side-trail systems, and performing regular maintenance of dredge deck equipment.
  • Dredging material: Advising the Dredge Master on optimal pipe positioning to maximize accuracy and quantity in dredging.
  • Reclaimed material: Overseeing the safe and effective management of the reclamation process, including adjustments to flow to prevent blockages and ensuring smooth communication with shore-based support.
  • Maintenance of the dredging system: This includes managing the entire system of side-trail, pumps, winches, and other related equipment.

Transnet is looking for a Pipe Man who will help drive operational excellence, ensuring the continuous flow of the port’s dredging operations with a focus on safety, quality, and maintenance standards.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Qualification:
