Minimum Requirements

To apply for the Cleaner Level 2 position, applicants must have:

• Adult Education and Training (AET/ABET) Level 3 or equivalent, such as Grade 7
• No previous experience required
• Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures
• Basic knowledge of health systems
• An understanding of Batho Pele Principles
• Knowledge of the Patients’ Rights Charter
• Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements
• Knowledge of the Six Priorities and National Core Standards
• Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills
• Good observation and organisational skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• The ability to work with tact and discretion
• The ability to work under pressure
• Knowledge of Labour Relations processes
• The ability to handle multidisciplinary tasks
• The ability to operate cleaning equipment and machines

Applicants must also be willing to work shifts, including after-hours shifts, night duty, weekends and public holidays.

Cleaner Level 2 Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic environment. Duties include:

• Sweeping, mopping and buffing floors using cleaning machines
• Cleaning walls, windows, doors and window frames
• Cleaning bathrooms, showers and lockers
• Dusting, washing and polishing furniture
• Cleaning corridors, public toilets, offices, clinics and entrances
• Cleaning stairs, fire escapes, lifts, passages and waiting areas
• Cleaning equipment and carpets
• Removing medical and general waste
• Cleaning bins and flattening cardboard boxes
• Following healthcare waste management and infection control requirements
• Operating heavy-duty cleaning machines
• Maintaining a clean and hygienic working environment
• Handling and storing linen
• Sorting and sealing contaminated linen
• Defrosting and cleaning unit refrigerators
• Refilling soap containers
• Removing food leftovers when necessary
• Cleaning and maintaining the unit kitchen
• Controlling kitchen and bathroom stock and reporting shortages to the supervisor
• Keeping cleaning trolleys clean
• Completing daily activities on the cleaning control list
• Following all cleaning service policies and procedures
• Meeting required timelines
• Complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Performing additional duties allocated by the supervisor
• Attending approved meetings and training
• Participating in continuous training and development programmes
• Complying with the Performance Management and Development System
