About the Opportunity

Clearview Clinic is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Registered Nurse to support patients receiving treatment for substance use disorders.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and provide nursing care to individuals dealing with alcohol, prescription medication and illicit drug dependence. The role includes supporting patients during detoxification, withdrawal and recovery while also addressing co-occurring physical and mental health conditions.

Minimum Requirements

To apply for this Registered Nurse position, applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Registered Nurse registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Have at least 2 years of experience working in a substance abuse rehabilitation facility.
  • A Psychiatric Nursing qualification and/or relevant psychiatric nursing experience will be an advantage.
  • Have sound knowledge of caring for individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Understand the care needs of patients affected by alcohol, prescription medication and illicit drug dependence.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work effectively in a challenging clinical environment.

Registered Nurse Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive nursing assessments.
  • Determining the extent of substance use and identifying related physical and mental health conditions.
  • Safely and accurately administering detoxification and withdrawal medications.
  • Monitoring patients throughout the withdrawal and recovery process.
  • Educating patients and their families about addiction, recovery and relapse prevention.
  • Providing information about available support resources.
  • Working closely with the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Delivering holistic and patient-centred care.
  • Supporting patients with co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Accurately documenting patient progress.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of treatment interventions.
  • Advocating for patient dignity, recovery, harm reduction and reduced stigma around substance use disorders.
  • Responding appropriately to medical and psychiatric emergencies when required.
