Momentum Group, one of South Africa’s largest insurance and financial services companies, is inviting high-performing actuarial science students to apply for its Actuarial Science Youth Bursary for the 2027 academic year. The bursary covers virtually every study cost, from tuition and accommodation to meals, textbooks and a data allowance, and comes with mentorship and vacation work at Momentum’s offices. Students entering their second year or higher in 2027 with a 70% average can apply until 31 August 2026.

About the Programme

Momentum Group (previously Momentum Metropolitan) serves millions of clients across insurance, investments, health and employee benefits, and is listed on the JSE. Actuaries sit at the heart of its business, pricing risk and designing the products South Africans use to protect their families and savings.

The Actuarial Science Youth Bursary (reference MMH260513-2) is Momentum’s pipeline for the next generation of actuarial talent, linked to its offices in Centurion, Sandton and Cape Town. Beyond paying for your studies, the programme connects you to working actuaries through mentorship and gives you vacation work experience, which counts enormously when you start writing professional actuarial exams. Graduates are expected to join Momentum Group after completing their degrees, so the bursary effectively comes with a job at the end.

Closing Date

The closing date for the Momentum Actuarial Science Youth Bursary 2027 is 31 August 2026. No late applications will be accepted.

Why It Matters

Actuarial science is one of the highest-paying professions in South Africa, but the degree is expensive and the drop-out rate is high, often because talented students cannot afford to focus on their studies. A full-cost bursary changes that completely. Every fee, meal and textbook is covered, so your only job is to perform academically.

The mentorship and vacation work are just as valuable: actuarial employers hire students they already know, and arriving at graduation with Momentum experience and four exemptions puts you years ahead. For students from disadvantaged backgrounds, this bursary is a direct bridge into one of the country’s most secure careers.
